So this is midwinter

I’ve decided that I’ve been kvetching far too much about winter. We’ve gotten accustomed to noncentral heating, it hasn’t gotten below freezing, and frequently the weather is like fall or spring in Portland, which is not bad at all.

Sunday afternoon we finally hiked up the biggest hill in town. The hike starts in Mair Park, named for the early settler who lived there from 1842 to 1926 and had the foresight to keep the land as it was–much of it mixed forest.

The hike was a bit jungly

although higher up there is the scrubby bush I have yet to grow fond of.

Those photos were taken only a few moments apart. Weather changes with astonishing rapidity here, and almost every day we get a great cloud show:
